The First Song Session of the Summer!

By Pamela Nestor

Shabbat Shalom!

Today we split into our units and rotated to the special areas around camp: the lake, the pool, athletics, the ropes course, horseback riding,  arts and crafts, and drama. Specialty area supervisors took us behind the scenes so counselors and unit-heads know how these areas operate—and of course, to have a taste of the fun we can look forward to this summer. After the unit rotations and shower hour, we took a walk to welcome Shabbat. Dressed in white and with our song leader, Mason Solomon, at the helm, each unit joined our line as we made our way from Teen Village to the amphitheater for services. After songs and blessing, we posed for our 2019 staff photo and then headed to the dining hall for a traditional Shabbat meal; may we recommend the matzo ball soup?

We didn’t leave the dining hall after dinner, though. From his portable stage, Mason played his guitar for the first song session of the summer! We sang and danced, standing on the tables and crowding around the stage, until Mason played the last chords of Country Roads.
