EKC Receives Generous, Staff-Focused Donation

By Aaron Cantor and Rachael Speck

It’s no secret that the heart of EKC has always been our staff.  They are the bedrock of Camp, delivering incredible adventures and life changing memories that stay with our campers long past the summer.  With our staff clearly a priority for EKC, we are pleased and humbled to announce a generous, multi-year gift from Linda and Jeffrey Solomon designated towards the creation of a best-in-class staff experience that will benefit the staff of today and tomorrow.

Every summer the EKC staff bring with them endless energy, creativity and passion for Camp. With this gift, we will better harness our staff’s excitement and intensity with a revitalized staff training experience that equips them with the most cutting-edge tools available to ensure an amazing summer for our campers and their families. In partnership with the Solomons, EKC will also begin designing a more formal leadership development program that emphasizes the social emotional skills in highest demand by world-class organizations like Google and Facebook, including being a good coach, communicating and listening well, processing and delivering constructive feedback, having empathy toward and being supportive of others, critical thinking, collaborative problem solving skills, flexibility and creativity.

More tangibly, the Solomons’ generosity also allows us to provide our staff the type of “retreat” they deserve during their down time in our staff lounge.  This existing space will now be a “cool” place to spend time, thanks to the addition of air conditioning, new furniture and the makeover to the fitness center.

Charles Eliot (former President, Harvard University) famously said, “I have the conviction that a few weeks in a well-organized summer camp may be of more value educationally than a whole year of formal school work.”

We are thrilled to have partners in Linda and Jeffrey Solomon that feel the same way.

In the spirit of camping,
