Greetings from Camp!

Welcome back EKC! We have returned to camp and are so excited that second session has finally begun. Being a counselor these past three summers has been amazing and I am so happy to close out an incredible summer with session two.

The first day was super fun and never gets any less exciting no matter how old you get. Seeing kids run up to their friends and counselors that they haven’t seen in months will never fail to bring a smile to my face. I spent some time in teen village on the first day and waited on the upper ball fields to greet teens, parents, and old campers that I haven’t seen in a long time. The reunion never gets old! After everyone has arrived, we are able to unpack. The first day always comes with a few meetings, swim checks, and ground rules being established for the summer. Nevertheless, there are also tons of laughs and a lot of love being shared throughout the day.

My favorite part of the first day is sikkum, which is the time each individual cabin or quad gets together with one other at night. It is a time to wind down and spend time with the more intimate group you will be with throughout the summer. This is time where we get to reflect on what our day was and what tomorrow can bring. Our first day sikkum was a lot of guidelines and expectations for the summer but also highlighted how special camp is and how excited we all are for the session. We gave the campers an opportunity to ask questions and had an open conversation about how everyone wants the summer to go and what they are most looking forward to.

This is my twelfth summer at Emma Kaufmann Camp and I wouldn’t trade any of the past eleven for the world! I cannot wait to spend the summer bonding with my campers and really getting to know each and every one of them. Camp is truly a special place, and I am so happy I get to spend my summers at a place that feels like home. I can’t wait to share with you what continues to happen throughout this session at camp!
