First Experience: Grades 2-6

First Experience is a one-week introduction to the EKC overnight camping experience We offer a wide variety of activities in all of our program areas with a goal of helping campers become comfortable staying away from home.

S.I.T Program

Our Staff-In-Training (SITs) bring a special quality to EKC. As former EKC campers, they continue traditions with younger campers. SITs travel to Poland & Israel for 4.5-weeks days of their 7-week commitment. The trip is planned in conjunction with the Jewish Community Center Association in New York and Israel along with Pittsburgh’s Partnership 2Gether sister city and region of Karmiel/Misgav. The SITs participate in tikkun olam projects and three Shabbat weekends, including one with their Israeli counterparts. They also visit the Kotel and Yad Vashem, go on archeological digs and climb Masada, plus much more.

The group travels in a luxury tour bus and lodges at 3-star hotels. Returning to camp renewed and excited to share their experiences, SITs participate in 3 weeks of program planning and supervision of campers as they complete their training.

Extending Your Stay

Every single one of our campers enrolled in these programs has the option to extend their time at Camp if you would like them to. There’s no requirement to do so, it’s an option that is available to you. For us, it’s important that you understand that our goal for each of your campers is for them to have an incredible experience at Camp. Whether that’s 1-week, 2-weeks, or an entire session, it doesn’t matter. We want this to be the start of a passion for being part of the EKC Family. We have a saying when it comes to campers making this decision – “sometimes it’s better to leave a little too early, than a little too late.” This means there’s nothing wrong with feeling accomplished and proud for staying at Camp for 1-week or 2-weeks, it’s OK to decide to go home as originally planned and get excited about returning the next summer.
