It’s Israel Day!
By Pamela Nestor
Happy Israel Day!! We started the day with cheesy scrambled eggs, cereal, fresh fruit, and schticks around the flagpole. Then we got down to business with our morning of Israeli activities in honor of Israel Day!
Activity stations included a Hebrew-letter scavenger hunt, face painting, writing letters to Israeli soldiers, pita making, and more. The scavenger hunt involved campers finding papers with Hebrew letters scatter around the upper ball fields that they used to spell a word; the first group to finish won! Teams had matching colors of face paint, as well as other designs like the Israeli flag or Star of David. Arts and Crafts set up a booth for campers to write letters to Israeli soldiers, and Sabra campers learned all about Israeli currency! At the fire pit, Ty and Nature Nick, our outdoor enthusiasts, baked pita dough over the fire! Campers seasoned it to their liking, some going for a savory flavor while others topped it with Nutella.
We returned to our regular activities after a lunch of macaroni and cheese, baked potatoes, and salad bar. Teen girls headed to soft ball and Halutzim boys worked on their fitness in the gym. Halutzim girls worked on character development in Drama. They created and presented detailed characters from stories they have already written or want to write.
For dinner we had chicken wraps, noodles, falafel pita pockets, and salad bar. We had some more activities after dinner, including sports leagues in the ball fields! A group of Halutzim campers will be heading to Seneca Rocks tomorrow for a beautiful hike!
